The Lutz Children’s Museum (LCM) is a non-profit organization providing educational opportunities to young children since 1953. The museum is a relaxed and creative environment filled with great experiences and opportunities for professional growth. All candidates must have recommendations, be at least 12 years of age, and be cleared to work in close proximity to young children.
Internship Opportunities
Education: Art Programs
LCM is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to assist in the delivery of educational programs designed for young children. The qualified candidate should have experience as a fine or performing artist, and a passion for teaching young children. You will work closely with an experienced educator as you design and deliver activities at the museum and in the community. This internship would be good preparation a future art teacher.
Education: Natural Science & Animal Programs
LCM is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to assist in the delivery of educational programs designed for young children. The qualified candidate should have a background in biology or a related environmental science, and a passion for teaching young children. You will work closely with an experienced educator as you design and deliver educational programs at the museum and in the community. This internship would be good preparation a future science teacher or environmental educator.
Animal Care
LCM is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to assist in the care, feeding, and enrichment of wild and domesticated animals. Many of the animals on display are used in educational programs. The qualified candidate should have a background in animal science or wildlife biology and a passion for humane education. The Animal Curator will train you on the care of a wide variety of species. This internship would be good preparation a future veterinary career.
Hospitality: Public Relations
LCM is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to assist with public service and general office duties. You will greet visitors, answer questions by phone and in person, process information, plan for events, make deliveries, and conduct mailings. This internship would be good preparation for a future office manager, hotel manager, or customer service representative.
Facilities: Maintenance & Repair
LCM is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to maintain our facilities, make mechanical repairs, and build small exhibit components. You will attend to electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and structural issues. This position requires an extensive knowledge of tools, creative problem solving skills, and attention to detail. Some time may be allocated to janitorial duties. This internship would be good preparation a future position in the building trades or as a building manager.
Marketing & Communications: Video Production
LCM is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to create short video productions highlighting our educational programs. The qualified candidate should have strong written and oral communication skills and extensive experience in video editing and web hosting.
Marketing & Communications: Social Media
LCM is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to promote our cause using social media. You will develop or enhance our presence on sites including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Wikipedia. The qualified candidate should have strong written and oral communication skills; extensive experience utilizing social media; and at least some video editing background.
