About the Lutz Children’s Museum
The Lutz Children’s Museum was incorporated as a private non-profit organization 1958. Our mission is to provide a multi-faceted museum for children to explore culture, history, and the natural sciences through internal and external exhibits, programs, and experiences. Therefore, we offer a wide variety of classes, concerts, trips, and special events for young children and their families. We also have an extensive school outreach program which utilizes our artifact collection started by Hazel Lutz over fifty years ago.

Seasonal Summer Camp Director
Position Duration
Position will begin part-time May 15th. The Lutz Nature Center Summer Camp runs from 8:00AM to 3:30PM for 7 weeks beginning July 5th and ending August 19th.
Essential Job Functions
- Supervise campers at all times while at the Lutz Nature Center Summer Camp (indoors, outdoors or on excursions).
- Keep current with Connecticut State licensing regulations and maintain needed material for inspections.
- Make arrangements to escort the Office of Early Childhood inspector around the camp premises and to supply any needed information, documents or materials.
- Ensure all other needed inspections are complete (vehicle, health, fire, etc.).
- Ensure the health, comfort, and safety of campers and staff.
- Oversee the safety, administration, and coordination of all camp activities.
- Maintain accurate records for the camp.
- Ensure camp operations are in compliance with the laws of the State of CT and the Lutz Children’s Museum policies.
- Oversee all camp staff.
- Coordinate and track required camp staff training.
- Provide leadership and direction for all camp operations (planning, license procedures and policies) to ensure both the camp staff and campers are engaged in a healthy, safe and nurturing environment.
- Develop and coordinate camp programs and activities for an engaging, high quality summer camp program.
- Determine supply and equipment needs and oversee ordering/purchasing.
- Inventory materials at the end of camp and keep record of overall camper attendance and experience.
- Write weekly reports and prepare information for newsletters to families.
- Assist in the evaluation of the camp itself, as well as the camper’s experience.
Travel Requirements
Travel between program sites in 15-passenger van, or between program sites and the camp is required.

- Ability to report work orally or in writing to Lutz Children’s Museum Executive Director as required.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
- Lift greater than 50 pounds.
- Traverse uneven woodland terrain.
- Get from kneeling to standing and standing to kneeling with ease and without outside support.
- Kneel on one knee, both knees.
- Get up and down from floor without assistance.
- Bend from the legs with ease.
- Shuffle quickly on your feet front to back, back to front, side to side.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, in indoor classroom environment, and in buses or vans.
Qualifications Profile:
Required: Must be at least twenty-one years of age with at least sixteen weeks administrative or supervisory experience in an organized youth camp or equivalent experience in an organized youth program working with children ages 5–12. Must have a valid driver’s license and documented health examination.
Preferred: Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate.
Desired: Current CPR/EPI Pen training certificate; however, Lutz Children’s Museum will provide training.
